Multilateration

Multilateration (or MLAT for short) is a technique that can be used to calculate the rough location of an aircraft by measuring the time it takes for a signal to travel from the aicraft to at least three receivers that are positioned some distance apart.

Virtual Radar Server does not include support for calculating aircraft positions using MLAT. However it can be told that one or more feeds contain MLAT positions, and it will make sure that if an MLAT feed is used in a merged feed then the MLAT positions will be picked up correctly when there is no better source of positions for an aircraft.
